An Urban Cosmic Plan Emerges: Colours, Traditional Techniques, Imagination and Theory

In 50 years of artistic work as a painter G.A. Woldański has involved himself with the urban linear system of Professor Oskar Hansen. Cave paintings with the use of simple means – pigment and paint, which fascinate him.

G.A. Woldański’s interest is ’movement in the universe’, life in time depicted on a surface area. He has said: “My eyes, my brain truly identify all directions, but no definable places.“ For him it is a creative challenge to paint pictures by simple means – e.g. pigment, (oil) paint, canvas, paper and plastic. The colours are applied layer by layer. The artist paints with oil and tempera colours, he uses gouache, water colours and acrylic paints. As for artistic techniques, he applies mixed media and impasto.

G.A. Woldański emphasises that an observer should decide the location from which he wishes to view the picture. How the picture is presented is a free choice: it could hang on the wall or lay on a table. Any connections between the various works can be interpreted and indeed created in the imagination of the viewer. Coincidence will decide the position of the signature on the picture. Open form and the time vector merge. The artist describes his creative work as: “The end of this cycle will be determined by my death.” Each picture is a part of a path in the universe. Every picture is an entry in an artistic diary.
